Wish they’d stayed
Today, I was watching the DVD of Chelsea season review 2004-05. That was the season when Duff and Gudjohnsen contributed to their best. They dictated the tempo of the game and they had great presence on the pitch. Especially, the Gudjohnses goal against Barca in the first leg of the Champions league knock-out round match was just out-of-the-world. It is very sad to see them leave this summer. I wish they had stayed but unfortunately Jose could not promise them 90 minutes of every match. Despite their leaving the team is stronger now, thanks to the signings of world class players.
These two are very well-mannered and true professional players. Chelsea ensured that the Gudjonsen signing is smooth and trouble-free. After signing for Barca, Gudjohnsen had said that he would always respect Chelsea and would support them and he even went to the extent of saying that in case he happens to score against Chelsea, he wouldnt celebrate. And for Duff, Chelsea had agreed for a low 5m price to ensure that Duff doesnt get a big dip in his wages.
It is nice to see the players and the club acting very professionally and reasonably. Both these players gave their best when they played for us and when Duff wanted to leave and when Gudjohnsen was asked to leave, it all happened in a private, respectable manner which showed the mutual respect between the club and the players.
Wish they’d stayed but anyway, you can’t keep everyone happy!
