Boulahrouz – The ‘anywhere’ man
In a top secret move, Chelsea has signed the 24-year old Dutch defender Khalid Boulahrouz from FSV Hamburg. Boulahrouz is right, left and centre defender who can also play the defensive midfielder’s role. Being multi-skilled he would immediatley fit into Jose’s scheme of things. His hallmark happens to be his adaptability to the multiple positions he would have to play. Whether Gallas stays or not and Ashley arrives or not, we have a top quality defender who’s very adaptable and play anywhere in defence.
Boulahrouz is nicknamed ‘Khalid the Cannibal’ for his ferocious style of defending. He played a major part in the Dutch world cup campaign and his role ended with a red card in the bloody quarterfinal against Portugal.
With Boulahrouz coming in, the Chelsea defence should be Terry and Carvalho in the centre, Boulahrouz in the left and Ferreira or Geremi on the right. I thought Geremi played very well in a not-so-familiar role in the community shield match. If now Ashley Cole also comes in, then we have enough for defence for this season. Atleast, now I’m not too bothered about whether Ashley would really sign for us or not. And more than anything else, the name Boulahrouz has got a nice ring to it!
