Wish I could blame it on the ref . . .

Rafa Benitez couldn’t sleep that night. He was wondering why he couldn’t do that. Sir Alex started saying that Man Utd was always in the hunt for the title and started quoting history (poor old man!). Arsene Wenger was excited but realised that it will do him no good anyway as his side was still fighting for a place in UEFA Cup and not even Champions League. How on earth did Boro beat Chelsea and that too in that margin?

That was one of the most shocking results of the last season (I did cherish Man Utd’s shot-filled draw against some Sunderland) and one of the worst defeats in Jose Mourinho’s career. McLaren thought & said that they have undone Chelsea and how were they strategically superior to Chelsea that night, okay, he had to say something on how they managed it. Boro played very well and thoroughly deserved their victory (after all they won 3-0). But from Chelsea’s perspective it was poor mistake by Cech for the first goal and uncharacteristic error by Terry for the second. The third goal was inevitable as we were pushing up and attacking and they countered and rounded us off. What was even more frustrating was they finished in the 14th place and ended up getting less than half of our league points.

Jose Mourinho once said that it would be announced as a public holiday when Chelsea loses. Well, that day it was very much like that. The whole of England was rejoicing and Chelsea fans were bombarded in all forums, blogs and chatrooms. Being a Chelsea fan, we are always ready for the insults, no matter how well we play, no matter how crafted our goal is, we never get the credit for our football that got us 90+ points and a goal difference of 50. That night, there was a massive belief that the Chelsea empire has crashed down and they would go on to lose the the title. It was further fuelled by Chelsea’s loss to Barca in the Champions league couple of weeks later.

We had the last laugh. Jose Mourinho was as cool as ever and just showed why we’re the champions. But the 3-0 loss to Boro was very painful and since then I’ve been waiting for this away match with Boro. On Wednesday, we should definitely win and how sweet it would be if it is 3-0!
